Hi, I’m Seb.
A film Director that has been making emotive cinematic content for over 15 years.

My Style

During my 15 years of finding myself as a filmmaker, I have focused my style around the subtle and subconscious empathy.

My goal in each film is to make every character relatable so that an audience can emotionally connect with them. From fairy tale guardians to failed superheroes, every character has an internal struggle that makes them human.

I use advanced techniques such as image systems and subconscious pattern recognition so that audiences can feel an emotional connection with what they are watching.

My History

Born and based in the South-East of the UK, Eastbourne. I have been inspired by woodlands, hillside and seaside. I love the overwhelming power of nature.

My love for the natural world inspired me to study and achieve a 1st Class Physics Degree so that I could further understand the world around me and continue to be inspired by it.

From the young age of 7 years old, I loved making films with my dad’s old camera. By 11 years old, I had learnt Adobe After Effects which enhanced my tools for storytelling greatly.

Idea Generation

I love visualising feelings and emotion so that others can immerse themselves in a similar feeling. Much like a piece of music; when you find one that communicates how you are feeling, it is incredibly satisfying. My aim is to create similar feelings of communication through film.

Characters

All my characters have justified reasons for what they do, giving them relatable qualities that can leave an audience swayed as to whether the ‘bad guy’ really is the ‘villain’. Everyone has their own internal conversations and development, I want that to be shown with every character on screen.

Image Systems / Subconscious Pattern Recognition

One of my main areas of study into film is the use of image systems and subconscious pattern recognition. This is where you make patterns throughout a film that relate to an idea, emotion or character. For example in our award winning short film ‘Harry Bot 9000’ we used a variety of image systems, one of which was to associate the shot of someone’s mouth (without their eyes) to their internal thoughts. Throughout the film we see Harry talking with himself. Then towards the end of the film, Harry and Lucy finally communicate with each other, but without words. In this moment, we only see their mouths.

Subconscious pattern recognition includes image systems but extends to techniques beyond the frame. This can include elements such as sound design or score. For example in our award-winning short film ‘Tide of Ghosts’, the association of imbalance of nature was established using a combination of bass wind sound in combination with ghostly howls. At first these sounds were associated with intimidating shots of cliff faces and raging seas, but then brought into scenes where the characters played football and had time to reflect on themselves and their own lives. Therefore, building a subconscious link between the two themes for the audience to make the connection.
